I am learning to take better care of myself and my mental health, because I’m worth it.
Of course there are plenty of other reason’s I started this journey to be the best me possible. So I can be the mommy my kids deserve, so I can find success, so that I can be a better wife, or so that I can live happily. Just to name a few. But the truth is, it come’s down to one simple truth. I’m doing this because I’m worth it.
Here’s the thing, I’ve never really believed I wasn’t worth it.
Depression being a liar and putting that little “you’re not worth it” thought in my head was a definitely a factor. But the reality for me, and I’m sure you too, is that life and kids and husbands just kind of take priority.
As moms, we don’t actually mean to forget about taking care of ourselves. We don’t actually want to have to be reminded we are worth the effort.
We get caught up in making sure everyone else is okay and fed and bathed. We are pretty much forgetting to make sure we are bathed, fed and okay.
If there is not one thing I have learned in my 29 years of life, it is change comes from with in. If I want to be the best me possible, I have put in the work.
I want to blossom in the direction I want to go, so I need to nourish myself.
Self care is not selfish, momma’s. It’s time to start taking care of ourselves so that we can be the best mommy possible.
We need to start waking up before the kids and having our coffee in peace. We need to start spending just a little bit of time away (gasp!) from the kids. We need to start taking care of our body’s with a good diet and just a little more exercise. (Or a lot more in my case.)
As a stay at home mom, I find myself feeling stuck at home a lot. (A little less now, with two cars!) I have a habit of not getting dressed for a few day’s at time. Besides something decent for school drop off, of course. If I don’t have any where to go, why waste the time?
Not any more! For the month of February I am challenging myself to get ready at least three times during the week and at least once on the weekend. Regardless if I need to leave the house or not.
I will, of course, blog about my experience come the first of March.
I am really excited about this challenge! It’s a great reminder that I am doing all of this, because I’m worth it. I am worth the effort of getting myself put together for the day. I am worth the time it takes, because it makes me feel good to look good.
